We set out to fix the fact that businesses need ten disconnected products just to operate — and that AI could finally make that unnecessary.
In early 2020, like so many others, Lucus Labs' business was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of doing just enough to "keep the lights on," we treated it as a chance to make a transformative change for the long-term future of our company.
One place we looked was the very products we used to run our own day-to-day business. Research — and our own first-hand experience — taught us that companies need on average ten different products just to operate: accounting and financials, CRM, ERP, HR, inventory, asset and product tracking, video conferencing, and everything in between.
Today, every product we build centers around artificial intelligence, because we've seen firsthand how it transforms operations. AI doesn't just add features to our solutions — it makes them inherently smarter, more efficient, and more intuitive for business owners who don't have time to become experts in a dozen software platforms. By building AI into the foundation of everything we create, from Symbient AI to the Agent Service Bus, AgentOS, and Symbient Spine, we're able to deliver the comprehensive, affordable business platform every company has been waiting for.
Founder, President & CEO, Lucus Labs
I'm Lucus Darnell, founder, president, and CEO of Lucus Labs. I've spent my career building software and technology companies, and I started Lucus Labs because I believe small and midsize businesses shouldn't need an army of IT specialists and a six-figure software budget to get the same technology advantages available to large enterprises.
Another reason why I started Lucus Labs was because I got tired of watching technology companies promise the future while continuing to sell the past.
Over the years, I watched larger software companies repeatedly embrace whatever the newest technology happened to be—cloud computing, automation, AI, and now agentic AI. The marketing would change. The buzzwords would change. The promises would change.
But too often, the products didn't.
Customers were still being asked to buy another application, add another subscription, integrate another system, and figure out yet another way to make all of it work together. AI was being added to existing products as a feature rather than being used to rethink what the software could actually do.
That bothered me.
Technology should solve problems. It shouldn't simply give companies a new way to sell the same solution.
I started Lucus Labs with a different idea: start with the problem, not the technology.
If AI can eliminate a tedious process, automate a workflow, connect systems that have traditionally operated in isolation, or help a business make better decisions, then that's where AI should be used.
If the right solution requires something completely different from what existed before, then we should build something completely different.
That's the philosophy behind Lucus Labs.
We're not interested in adding AI because AI is fashionable. We're interested in using technology—including AI, automation, intelligent agents, and the infrastructure behind them—to fundamentally change how businesses operate.
The goal isn't to sell businesses more software.
The goal is to make the software they already have—and the software we build—actually work for them.
We'd love to hear about your business and where Lucus Labs can help.
