The New Attack Surface: How AI Creates Security Vulnerabilities
Let's talk about something that's probably keeping some of you up at night, or isn't even on your radar .... until now.
AI is everywhere. We're using it to write emails, generate reports, analyze data, automate workflows. It's incredible. But here's the thing nobody wants to admit out loud: we've also opened a massive new door for attackers.
I'm not trying to sound alarmist. I'm just being real.
The same AI that helps us work faster and smarter? Attackers are using it too. They're creating phishing emails that are scarily convincing. They're bypassing security filters with AI-generated variations that traditional tools can't catch. They're even poisoning the data that trains these models or manipulating outputs to leak sensitive information.
Think about that for a second. The tools we trust to make us more efficient might be the same ones introducing new vulnerabilities into our businesses.
So what do we do about it?
First, we need to stop treating AI like it's just another software deployment. It's not. It's a whole new attack surface that requires a whole new security mindset.
Here are some questions worth asking yourself:
- Are you validating the integrity of the data feeding your AI models?
- Is your team trained to spot AI-driven attacks (because they look different than the old-school stuff)?
- Do you have any governance around how AI is being used across your organization?
If you're unsure about any of those, you're not alone. Most businesses are still figuring this out.
The reality is this: AI is redefining what's possible for innovators AND adversaries. The winners will be the ones who adapt their security approach now — not six months from now when something goes wrong.
Security isn't about playing catch-up anymore. It's about staying two steps ahead.
