Updates & Licensing

AgentOS updates itself in place without touching your workspaces, and keeps working offline on a locally stored license.

Updates

AgentOS checks for updates in the background about every six hours. When an update is available, you'll see it in Global Settings → Updates.

  1. Click Check for Updates to check right away.
  2. Click Install & Restart. AgentOS downloads the update, installs it over the current version, and restarts the server.
  • Automatic updates: tick "Automatically download and install updates" to install new versions without asking.
  • Channel: choose Stable (recommended) or Beta for early access.
  • Your data is safe. Updates replace only program files. Your ~/.agentos/ folder and workspaces aren't changed, and the previous version is kept so a failed update can roll back.
  • Turning checks off: set "update": { "enabled": false } in ~/.agentos/server.json.

Licensing

AgentOS is activated with a token from your organization or your Symbient AI account (see Install & Activate). Activation stores a signed certificate in ~/.agentos/license.json.

  • Each time the server starts, AgentOS re-verifies the certificate with the license server.
  • If the license server can't be reached, AgentOS keeps working for up to 30 days. After that, restore network access or enter a new token.
  • If a certificate is revoked, expired or replaced, AgentOS asks for a new activation token.
  • Your license status and expiry date are shown in Global Settings.

To learn what is sent during activation and update checks, see the AgentOS Privacy Policy.

Moving to a new computer

  1. Install AgentOS on the new machine.
  2. Copy ~/.agentos/ and your workspace folders, including their .agentos/ folders.
  3. Activate with a token. Licenses are tied to a machine, so ask your administrator if you've reached your seat limit.
